    Default Unlocking blackberries?

I bought a Blackberry Curve off my uncle yesterday for £20 (8520 I think). It works and everything he showed me but I need to buy a charger for it and it's a T-mobile sim so I want to get it unlocked to be able to use my Orange pay as you go sim because I like the Dolphin pack on Orange. I've seen stalls that charge £10 to unlock phones but I've never unlocked a phone before. What do they do to unlock them? Will they need any proof that it's my phone because as I say I bought it off my uncle so I don't have the phone box or anything and he kept the chargers to use as spares for his new blackberry

They use some software, plug the phone in and run it, I did it with mine, they didn't ask for proof

I've heard something about needing an IMEI code? Did they ask you for that?

they'll find your imei code once they have your phone you type something like #somethinghere# and it'll come up but they will sort that all out at the stall

They can get it off the phone itself, just make sure the battery is charged.

It might be worth ringing up T-Mobile or whoever the phone was with before, they can give you the unlock code and if it was on contract they might give you it for free/cheap.

Thanks I'll go on Saturday and see if I could get it unlocked. I'm also not on contract I'm on pay as you go.

tmobile will be able to unlock it they'll charge 10/20 quid for it though.

The stalls use codes / software to do it make sure you test it before you leave the shop though and see it working with "orange" as the provider showing on screen as some will say they've unlocked it when they've not.

What I did here is (in Aus) not sure about where you are.

I went to the provider website where the phone was initially under contract and bought from and there was a page where it asked to unlock phone.

Asked for the IMEI for my phone which you can either get through phone status or if you take battery out it is shown on the back, then asked for details I am pretty sure name and D.O.B. (Could be wrong)

Than credit card (debit card) details if they are charging you a fee, I didn't get charged a fee.
