Dear whoever,
Your first paragraph should be about how you found the job and why you think you should be considered. This is like a one or two sentence sell yourself, and also a little intro. I am interested in your advertised position as a Sales Assistant in blabla say how you'd like to work there as it's such as high reputation company or something like that.
Your second paragraph is going into detail about experience. Remember if it isnt sales assistant experience you can relate almost all experience to the job. Get into specific skills you've earned and adapt them around the job you have.
Then your last one is about your qualifications, I think this may be the second one but again you relate the qualifications to the key personalities you need for the job.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to taking an opportunity to talk to you further about my application.
Yours Sincerely,
Your name.
TIPS (Took from a website I used when I wrote one):
Mention any relevant qualifications – in this case a degree.
Mention any relevant work experience – in this case, working as an accounts clerk at Driftbridge.
Refer to any training or details mentioned in the advert – in the case above we referred to CIMA.
Remember to compliment firms on their reputation or other characteristics.
Letters addressed it to a specific person, should be signed with ‘Yours sincerely’. Letters addresses to Sir/Madam should be signed 'Yours Faithfully'.
Include your mobile telephone number in the letter.
If the work was in a specific industry (e.g. tax advice), we would have mentioned this too, and why we are interested & suitable.
Keep your covering letter concise - only use one side of A4 paper.
That is really helpful, well structured and good tips - the whole lot. I'll try and follow this and come up with something
Thanks Jay! +rep![]()
