Katy Perry Leads MTV VMA Nominations

Pop singer Katy Perry ( Kathy Beth Terry ) won a leading nine nominations for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards reducing eccentric superstar Lady Gaga to just three nods.

British singer Adele, whose second album 21 is the world's top-selling record this year, earned seven nominations -- all of them for her hit single Rolling In The Deep.

Rapper Kanye West was the top male nominee, with seven nods for his futuristic E.T. collaboration with Katy as well as his own music videos for All Of The Lights and Power.

Soulful Grenade singer Bruno Mars earned four nominations while Beyonce,Eminem, rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars and female rapper Nicki Minaj racked up three nods apiece. The awards will be handed out during a televised live show in Los Angeles on 28 August. Winners are picked by public voting.

The nine nods for Katy, 26, were the climax of an extraordinary 12 months that has seen the once struggling gospel singer reinvent herself as a pop sex kitten with a string of hits like California Gurls, Teenage Dream and Firework. Reuters

first thing that gaga only got 3, and katy got like 25682756, firework for video of the year? what? that video sucked. if any of hers were going for VOTY it should have been LFN. also the fact that rolling in the deep got so many nominations when it is basically adele sitting on a chair. yes, the song was overly huge in US recently but if they were doing nominations on song popularity (which doesn't make sense anyway hence VIDEO music awards), why is it that rihanna, who has had 3 huge US no.1s this year got ZERO nominations? so ridiculous.

I'm surprised that Katy Perry got 9 nominations, gaga was just as deserving or maybe more, so is Rihanna.
