Provisional license

It's a random question, not important but what happens to your provisional when you pass your test? Do you keep it or does it get taken away from you?

I don't know why i'm asking this, just curious.

the examiner takes it (both parts, the card and the paper bit) with him/her after you've passed and you get a new pink license along with a new accompanying piece of paper

The examiner asks you if you'd like him to send off for your license. This means he'll take both parts of your license and your theory test certificate and send it off for you. It will arrive in 10 working days. Alternatively you can choose to send it off yourself but to be honest, your better off letting the examiner do it. Much less work for yourself plus the pass certificate will permit you to drive as far as I am aware until your actual license comes.
