    Default No more microsoft points?

The Microsoft Point may soon be an extinct form of payment, if a report from Inside Mobile Apps is accurate. The site says the proprietary currency that we use primarily to purchase Xbox Live games, add-ons and sundry digital goods may soon go the way of the Flooz and Beenz.

Inside Mobile Apps reports "By the end of 2012, all transactions will be based on the region set on the purchasing account and real money will be used to purchase all Windows Phone content." The same would reportedly apply to purchases via Xbox Live Marketplace and Zune Marketplace.

It would, thankfully, eliminate the need for Microsoft Points to dollar/yen/pound/euro calculators and, hopefully, the need to buy Points in a limited number of increments.

Microsoft currently sells some digital content by way of real world currency, including Xbox 360 Games on Demand and Windows Phone games.

If true, we won't miss the clumsy Microsoft Point. Deals on Microsoft Points cards? Maybe. Just maybe.

I'll be glad if its true. Ms points are a pain and I never understood why they did it.

    Thoughts?

I always found it to be one of the best things. I often find myself wondering how much something will be when it says "$10 on PSN" because the exchange rates aren't exactly followed (for what I can only assume is tax and then maybe rounded off a bit). Oh well, I don't use my 360 so it doesn't really concern me.

Although I don't use my xbox much any more cos of my PS3, I do think it will be a great idea if they stopped MS points! I'm not sure bout this but on Xbox the calculation for 1200 is about £10 I think, but on PS3 the same game costs £7. Hopefully that will change!

This is a very good point, but I'm a fan of getting rid of them. They're a decent idea, until you realise you're pretty much always spending more than you have to, and there's never anything 'good' to spend the remaining points on.

So many times I've had just a few under what I've needed and been forced to buy another £5 worth of points which then become unless or wasted. But then again this 'catch' is great for Microsoft making money, why would they change it?
