    Default Consumer Electronics Show 2012

Christmas is over. Well sort of. CES 2012 is now the talking point in my eyes! Post any CES rumours in this thread, or what you expect to see - any technology predictions should be posted HERE.

LG have announced a new range of OLED tv's, and also a 55 inch, OLED tv the thickness of a ballpoint pen.

The official blog/news source for CES and the CEA is Engadget (www.engadget.com - check it out!)

(Now to go and post the thread I have come on for )

Is it just me who finds CES fundamentally boring? It's completely over-rated. Nothing decent ever materialises from it, it's just a bunch of product releases from Japanese companies with better televisions (Thinner, larger etc) every year. Then there's some obscure gadgets which will be featured on the gadget show but most likely be forgotten about in a few months time and never make it to mass-market.

I don't mean to sound like an Apple fanboy because I'm anything but, however I'd much rather watch one of their keynote addresses and product releases any day.

    An interesting post.

In some aspects I know where you are coming from. However, it always excites me as thinner, larger, faster excites me (although, that is EXACTLY what Apple keynotes are about (+lighter)!) I love any new consumer electronics to be honest, tbf even a fridge with a fast computer in it interests me! I am hoping some decent new phones get released (for example Motorola's one last year), Android 4.0 in particular. The obscure gadgets are not as important for me though.

I too love Apple's keynotes, well I certainly did when Steve Jobs was doing them - he knew how to excite the crowd, he was fantastic. I love those just as much as CES and any other big technology show though, and I hope Apple has a few keynotes this year too.

Agreed, just a bunch of new televisions and products people have known about for months in advance, except they're all under one roof and re-announcing what they have to offer.

As for the latter, I would contemplate suicide. American keynote speeches are just as irritating as evangelical church services where you get a bunch of people running around screaming over what is essentially nothing, especially when facts and figures are all misinterpreted, falsified or missed out completely in the midst of the ecstatic screaming.

Does Apple show up at CES? I thought they used to announce whatever they're planning at their own special event, and ignore CES completely - or it's another show

My post came across incorrectly. I meant I hope they have a good few keynotes this year (literally this year, not CES ). And yeah, they ignore CES (well they probably wait to see what is released, then use it on their own product release a few months later lol).

Also, that is what I love about keynotes. Seeing how companies use statistics and stuff to get things across - it is interesting how successful (and how many fails) companies have over stuff like that.

    Intel caught cheating while demonstrating

Intel attempted to demonstrate the DirectX 11 capabilities of their Ivy Bridge based Ultrabook and guess what; although the commentator was doing his best to simulate his driving skills and claimed that F1 2011 was running in DX11 mode, the main monitor betrayed him when he tried to press the play button on the video player program that was running at the background.
