    Default Mobile abroad

In August, I'm being posted out to Germany for 2 weeks, and I would like to be able to access the Internet on my phone while I'm there (mainly Facebook). I'm currently pay monthly on three, but all I can see on their website is pay-as-you-go stuff

Can anyone point me in right direction or suggest cheapest way to access Internet on phone abroad ?

    Cheers
    Luke

Buy a SIM card once you get out there.

I'd recommend what Tom said, buy a sim out there or try and organise a capped deal with your provder. If you're going to do that then keep in mind there has been cases where they've let them go over their limit.

I know that with T-Mobile pay as you go, you can get 30 days of unlimited internet and BBM (if you own a BlackBerry ofc) for £15.32 when abroad.

Wouldn't sign for a contract at all if I was going abroad.

Purchase a sim over there, make sure it uses a compatible network and top it up when you want to use the Internet. Chop the Sim in half when you leave / have finished using it.

Like everyone else has said I'd purchase a pay as you go sim because then you know EXACTLY how much you're going to be spending. I went to romania last year and came back with a phone bill of about £250 just for a few texts, calls and data usage.

Also little tip whilst your out there make sure you turn all your push notifications off and make sure data roaming is off cause you'll be charged a bomb.

Pretty much all networks should work and microsim, I'm pretty sure they do Pay&G ones just get one here before you go

Must of been more than "a few" calls and texts. You are capped to 50 euros of data per month in the EU. The enforced exchange rate for mobile phone charges last year was 0.87. Therefore assuming you did not manually override the data cap and you used all 50 euros worth of data, you are left with 232 euros approx. Also assuming your provider charged the limit for roaming charges in the EU then that could be spent on either, or any combination of:

    - 664 Minutes of outgoing calls from any EU number
    - 2109 minutes of incoming calls from any number
    - 2109 text messages

All values are calculated excluding taxes.

Are you seriously telling me that you did not check the prices for the country you were travelling to and never checked your current outstanding balance whilst away and sent up to 2109 text messages or spend 10 hours calling people? >.>

There is no problem using your pay monthly phone abroad as long as you take a few simple precautions and apply a bit of common sense.

However, if you want to use your phone for quite a large amount of data then it is most likely best to get a German SIM and research the best deals for internet usage in germany.
