Default new Xbox to not have a CD Drive?

I've seen a few posts that appear to state that Microsoft may be completely removing the optical drives from the next Xbox console in favour of downloadable games/content and possibly the ability of using solid state storage.

Something doesn't sound right here to me. I don't have an Xbox, I have a ps3 and to be honest I rarely game at the moment. But the PS3 has a blu-ray player and has always seemed a little bit better to me. Removing the optical disc drive from the Xbox just seems like Microsoft could be forcing gamers to move to the PS3 or even the PS4.

It's a rumour and not a lot is known. What do you think?

Well the current one has a DVD not a CD drive so for something in this day and age I'd hope that they wouldn't use a CD drive... :3

It would be a stupid move by microsoft and is unlikely to happen. Not only does it severely limit their market to only those with a decent internet, but it would put people off buying it as they might prefer buying preowned games or often sell their games in exchange for new ones therefore they would go for the hardware which would offer that.

Hasn't this rumour always come up in regards of the next Xbox?

Not going to happen unless Microsoft doesn't take a share and lets publishers get games on there for free. Then publishers will love Microsoft and not develop for the PS4.

Sounds like a pointless move to me and just seems like microsoft are being cheap **** and making us pay full price. Although I am a PS3 guy, I am not fasinated by either the new xbox and the PS4 tbh.

Microsoft is technically just forcing you to pay the developers rather than enable Game and other second hand sale games places to rip the developers off.

That wouldn't happen unless the PS4 was a commerical failure

It's not really "ripping the developers off" as those who trade games in could well reinvest in new games but if they couldn't trade those games in then they wouldn't have the money to buy new games. Also nowadays, there's online passes, dlc and other ways to make money from games then the actual game itself.

What dbgtz said but also at the end of the day I'm sure if it was a choice of people buying the games second hand Vs people downloading themillegallyI'm sure the developers would prefer the first. People these days like to try and get abargain.

I've heard that the workers at game have to push the sales of "Used" games as the company gets far more money. So it depends if the customer falls for it or not.

Yes but that's because they're on the brink of going bust.
