    Default Gym fee

    Hey,
I was a member at a gym for like 4 odd years, left for two months and rang them back up asking if i was to rejoin would i have to pay for the registration fee (which is 150 euro) I explained how rude the staff were and the reason why i left, so in return i was told i didn't have to pay the registration fee. I registered during the week, i paid for my first month and now I went up today and they're saying i need to pay for their registration fee but i was told prior to registering by not one but two staff members that i wouldn't have to pay.

Surely what they're doing is illegal. Fair enough if one staff member made a mistake but TWO. With that said it's their fault not mine. I'm just following what I was told. Does anyone know if there is any law that states a company can't do something like this. I'm almost certain this can't be legal.

P.s don't move this to the sport section or health a life just because it has gym in the title, it falls under neither category.

unless it's been written down i don't think you can prove a verbal agreement, unless it's been noted somewhere by someone that this is what you agreed.

The thing is though, they wouldn't of asked me to pay the first month without paying the registration (as it would defeat the purpose). So i guess if it goes any further I could use that against them. If they make me pay the registration fee I'm actually going to seek legal advice as that's completely unfair, their staff should know their policy and how the hell am I meant to know their policy if the people explaining it to me haven't a notion either.

Like you said, either seek legal advice or go to a different gym. Not sure how they can justify that - allowing you to pay for one month then demanding a registration fee that they said you didn't need to pay.
