Family is more important than romance.

I saw a question on a site earlier which I've been asked many a time - "Family or friends? Which is more important". Took me a great deal of consideration and I placed both on the same level due to... reasons

Anyway, decided to twist this. Family or romance? Which do you consider more important. Go go go. (Will post my view later).

Very difficult to come up with a single answer, really. For me, romance is much better if it's true and there's trust, whereas family can become boring or repetitive (if you've had your mum telling you to fold your clothes neater for 22 years). Romance is more exciting and brings new things into life, while a family will always offer you somewhere to retreat to if all else fails.

However, if family really did have such strong connections, why would a woman choose temporary drugs or alcohol over her baby daughter? For this reason, I must choose romance because you probably will not have known your partner for the whole of your life so, although you will feel betrayal, it's easier to get over. You can't just cut blood ties.

Romance because with romance you can start your own family and continue the human race etc etc. Family's important as well obviously but out of the two, I'd say romance. If it was the friends vs family question though I'd choose family every time lol.

depends the context.. family are the ones who bring you up (whether blood related or not). they're the ones who 'teach' you about life and if you're brought up with no love or an abusive household then your perceptions of love and romance are based on that. not always but often. romance/romantic love to me is just chemicals and **** that doesn't last (not talking about 'true love' where you form a bond with someone) while upbringing often has a huge hold over you all your life.

however id probably choose romance/love over my family cause you're an individual who will make your own family one day and shouldn't be based on how your own family are.

Of course, in the earlier stages of life, family is a lot more important and crucial to societal function.
But when a person is old enough to legitimately reason one side or the other, it can be their decision entirely.
Romance provides a gateway to starting your own family, and living life independently, rather than reliant on family.
But family (usually) are always there to fall back on when life gets too tough.

Personally, family, as romance isn't one of my priorities.

You have no control who's part of your family. I hate some of my cousins, they're nasty, useless idiots (I'm not just being mean, they're awful) Friends/partners are the family you choose for yourself.

Family is always more important, in the case of a couple having troubles but whom also have children - the welfare of the children (to keep the marriage together) is much more important than finding new romantic partners.

Both is equally important in my opinion as romance leads to family and family leads to good attitude etc. Feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong. It's been a long time since I involve myself in a decent debate.

There's no right or wrong answer, it's different for each individual. I'm a family person and find them more reliable than friends etc so I'd say family.
