:Q) What is global warming?

:A) Global warming is when the earth heats up (the temperature rises). It happens when greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane) trap heat and light from the sun in the earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature. This hurts many people, animals, and plants. Many cannot take the change, so they die.

For Example; Towns and cities flood.

My view on 'global warming', later called 'climate change' and now known as 'sustainable development' can be summarised best as this..



If anybody wishes to discuss it more in depth then I will do so, but here's some key terms for anybody to search before they repeat to me what they've been taught in state schools;

- University of East Anglia with 'Climategate 1' and 'Climategate 2'.
- 'Hide the decline'
- The 'Hockey Stick Graph'
- Sun spots and the 30 year cycle.
- Water vapour in relation to temperatures over Asia.
- Building on flood plains and being surprised when properties there flood.
- The 'renewables' disaster.
- The medival warming period.
- Temperatures in Scotland (regarding grape growing) in the Roman Province of Britannia.

During A Level Chemistry we had a very blunt teacher and he would always say things how they basically are, he would never just read off the pages in the text book about climate change, he would actually look in other books and look on reputable sites on the internet to actually gives us a balanced argument on Climate change so that we could form our own opinions on the subject matter, rather that just have to believe what the text books tell us, which are written using governement guidelines on the cirriculum. (Yes there was a small module on climate change/green house gas effect in OCR A Level Chemistry.... i know... lol).

Basically it leads me to believe that it climate change isn't something that us humans could actually bring on ourselves. The planet is massive and our atmosphere is even larger, eventhough we maybe pumping out loads of CO2 it's tiny compared to other effects. Some people also forget that water vapor, h2o is actually a greenhouse gas too and it's far worse than CO2 as it has a higher specific heat capacity. Look at it this way, the Sun goes through phases, it's something like 10 year solar maximum and then declines again (not sure on the actual time scale but we know it happens). The sun outputs more radiation and so it's bound to warm the planet slightly, but a very tiny amount though, probably just like .1 of a degree globally or something silly. But this small increase in temerature allows more of the water in our oceans to evopourate and so we have more wate vapor in our atmosphere which itself is a greenhouse gas and so causes another small increase in temperature which inturn allows more of the water in the ocean to evapourate.

More of the earth is made up of water than land, the effect from our co2 emmisions (which remeber is a weaker green house gas than water) is much much smaller than the effect from water evapouration from the sea, so i doubt we are having any effect at all.

Then linking back to the idea on Solar Maximum, you then have a point when the sun emmits a smaller amount of radiation and so the earth is cooled slightly again. This allows more of the great greenhouse gas which is water to condense and form water again, this means less of the greenhouse gas in the atmosphere and this agian causes a cooling in global temeperature, so more water vapor condenses and so on. This cycle continues with the sun. So there is a constant cooling and warming of the earth over a period of many years. This is why there was a big emphasis on global warming a few years ago, then i changed to 'climate change' because they actually found the earth to be cooling again. This is basically because of the sun.

I mean i don't know loads of this subject but the above is what i believe. There will also be other phases of the Sun over many thoasand of years and also the titlt of the earth can affect global temperature, hence why you have ice ages and periods of dryness.

So thats my opinion.

Often when people use the terms "Global Warming" and "Climate Change" they often are just aiming it at the argument of Humans producing too much CO2, and i feel this is wrong.

But i definately believe in Climate Change, because it is happening constantely, it's want drives evolution and it's the reason why we are here today. It's all about adapting to the new climate over many millions of years.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, but theres no harm in switching those lights off and using the car a little less, cos after all it saves the pennies.

As i do very often, i'm currently on the laptop with the television on and one lamp, its not that hard. good point there Dan, I'll Read It More Carefully When I'm More Awake.

Haha yeah sorry, i do make a habbit of writing essays when i could just write it into a few sentences

My main point was that i feel climate change is occuring but it's a natural phenomna caused by the sun and other factors out of our control and that mother nature is so large that even all our emmisions will have very little effect upon her, but it never hurts to turn a light off to save money

Global Warmings apparently been going on for years, so it doesn't really bother me
