    Unhappy Paypal Issues

I was in the process of selling and transferring my vBulletin license. The buyer wanted me to hurry up and accept his payment so we could continue on with the process of me getting the license transferred over. I could not remember my paypal account and loging for the life of me. So I decided to open a new account to accept the funds he was sending. After about an hour I remembered my main paypal account so I logged in, transferred over the funds to my main one and then proceeded to close the one I had created.

Paypal has now put a hold for investigation on the funds. I'm not quite sure if they will send the money back to the original owner or if it is just temporary and they will release the money. If they do end up sending back the funds I will be out not only my vBulletin license but also the money I made for it.

Is there a way I can put a hold on the vBulletin transfer if I email them and tell them the situation? This is really sketching me out because I don't want to get ripped off. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I may be able to do?

You can ring paypal and speak to them. Is your paypal account verified?
Because if its not Sometimes they hold payments for like 2 weeks just to make sure your not doing anything illegal like transferring to one account to the next before you withdraw.

No, its not verified at all. Ugh what a horrible situation lol. Now I'm questioning if I'm actually even going to get my money at all. I got an email confirmation back from vBulletin and they said they would put the transfer on hold until I gave them the go ahead... So I guess now all I can do is wait on paypal... While still trying to convince my buyer that he is NOT getting scammed. Fml

You don't have to give the buyer the vBulletin licence until you've received the money (as in, it's not frozen, on hold, etc.). PayPal do investigate accounts to ensure they're not being used for money laundering purposes. I'm sure they'll unfreeze the transaction within 2 weeks because there's obviously nothing illegal about it.

Is your PayPal account limited? If so it should tell you what you need to do next. Normally this will involve sending them some form of government issued photo ID.

Just to add, this is why I don't use PayPal any more and accept payments via Amazon FPS or Google Wallet/Checkout.

Fewf. I was scared tho because I created a new account when I couldn't remember my main one that they would look at it as me trying to get rid of a trace of where the money came from. As if I was scamming the buyer. I didn't want to look like one of those idiots that send money around to multiple paypal accounts to avoid getting a charge back.

I guess I can send proof to the buyer that it is in fact on hold. In this case he cant do anything besides get upset that he has to wait a little bit longer. I mean until the money is off a hold and in my account he is not getting anything from me.

If your PayPal account is limited they won't release the funds until you provide them with the information they requested. Also just to add if the problem occured while transfering the funds between your account then you should still provide the license to the person you bought it from. As far as they are concerned they've paid you the money and not their problem if you had issues transferring it between your accounts.

PayPal are pretty good at working out if you're trying to avoid a chargeback. They'll keep logs of your IP address and other relevant identifying information and they'll have humans reviewing it - like "Are the email addresses similar? Are the postal addresses the same? Is it the same name? Is the telephone number provided the same?". The system will freeze your transaction but it is investigated by humans.
