Default are the effects of watching a romantic movie the same for gay people

So I was wondering, most romantic movies focus on the relationship between a man and a women with very few looking at same gender relationships. the same is with music where often the lyrics mention "her lips", "her eyes" or w.e. and all this is designed to touch the audience/listeners. but do gay people get affected by this the same way as straight people do.

for example someone who just watched like the notebook or something may feel very affectionate and what not because of what they saw, but would a do gay people feel this in the same way cos they're looking at a different type of relationship?

i know things like this can be a delicate topic so i feel like i should say that i mean no offence or anything, im just genuinely interested.

Are you asking whether gay people find any affectionate interest in straight couples in films kissing, or gay couples? I presume you mean straight couples so I'll answer like that.

Although I'm not a massive fan of romance films and think quite a lot of them are really ... "cringey", sometimes I can look at a guy and a girl kissing or whatever and think it's kinda cute. At the end of the day there's still love between them (albeit acted) and that's quite a lovely quality to watch between any couple :p

yeah i meant gay people watching straight couples. i kinda thought that they might not feel the directors intention as much as a straight viewer might because there isn't as much of an narcissistic identification.

I can answer this! I watch a lot of LGBT films on Netflix and many of the foreign ones have young gay boys as couples and yes I still get the same feeling as when I watch a hetero couple but im like waaaaaa im so jel and bitter that they're gay, if either character is hot

yes i can relate to the scenario in the movies, the only different in a relationship between a man and a women and someone of the same gender is the sexual organs. everything else in the movie whether it be love, heartbreak, lust, whatever is the exact same. love or romance isn't different just because of your sexuality so yes i can relate.

love is love regardless of gender is what i'm trying to say basically lol

i know that.. but i don't know if i was watching a movie about two of the same gender if i would feel the same as if there was a film with an identical plot but with a straight relationship.

because i dont think i would be able to put myself in their shoes so to speak, because i dont have sexual feelings for men lol. im not saying that the love isn't the same, because it is.

i only put this here because over the last few years studying film one of the theories i learnt and used quite a lot was called narcissistic identification which basically means the viewer seeing themselves on screen as one of the characters because they can associate with them. although events of film tend to be over emphasised and unrealistic in romance you can still get this sense and its one of the things which makes you go aww.

i was purely wondering because i thought it might be far more difficult for a gay guy to put associate in loving a woman and having sexual attraction, because although as you said "love is love" gay relationships and straight ones are still different. your macklemore vid thing was a good shout tho, as im sure everyone can appreciate the love in that, but when i watched it i didn't think "i wish i had that" unlike when watching say "the notebook" or "dear john"

edit: omg this looks like an essay, so sorry. hope i cleared up what i am thinking though. not trying to lecture
