For a non-Tokyo specific fact: At 5pm in Japan they play a chime over the PA system in most cities and towns (including Japan). It's called "Chime of Love" which comes from a Japanese nursery rhyme, to signal that it is sunset or the end of the day, which informs children that it is time to go home.
