    Default Meeting bf/gfs parents

I was wondering whether anybodys got some good or bad stories about meeting parents of their (ex) other half? I'm meeting my girlfriends parents this weekend and I'm not sure whether ill make a good impression seeing as they'll judge me straight away when they find I have a scouse accent....

Anyone got some decent stories? :p

I'll just say my (ex) boyfriend's name as you know who I mean .

    Scott
Saw mum on webcam, thought she was Scott's sister at first. Met her, she said hi and told me who she was. She was ok, got me a birthday card and she seemed ok, had manners to me and stuff. However, when she drunk a bit and sometimes when sober she would talk behind my back to Scott, tell him if i don't socialise I can't go to their house, saying I can't stay etc. she'd never say it in front of me though. When me and Scott broke up it was obvious she wasn't that happy, she blocked me on Facebook purposely told Scott things about these girls at her work who'd be good girlfriend material; he posted it on Facebook etc. so it was basically indirectly aimed at me. Anyway, I didn't like his mum much, she bought me make up for Christmas (not ungrateful) but I do believe she knew I didn't wear it. Overall, I thought she was ok but she always had to come first in Scott's eyes which didn't help. His dad was alright with me, always had a joke with me and we got on well when I was invited out on a meal with them, got talking to him about his job and stuff and never got on the wrong side of his dad. However, apparently Scott didn't know how he'd react but he was fine. So if you show a good sense of humour perhaps that could go well?

    Max
I've met his dad, after our first date, before Max had told him about us Max just said 'yeah it was fine, just walked her home' so then he twigged and not going to lie his dad is lovely, it took sometime to get used to his humour but he always cooks for me, makes me drinks etc. but overall I think he likes my company so you could say his dad was ok with meeting me and everything. His dad's girlfriend was alright with me, always talks to me and it's nice to interact with both of them, can't do enough for me etc. either. Both down to Earth really which helps. I haven't met his mum as she lives a few hours away I think but she looked at my pictures on Facebook and said I look nice so fingers crossed for that.

I'd just try be yourself Ryan, don't try too hard and hopefully you'll make a good, lasting impression x.

With my ex (who was 3 years ago) I was scared to meet his mum, because from what my ex had told me, she can be a stuck up cow. The first time I met her, she seemed okay, she said hello and gave me a hug, which was a bit awkward. We then went out for a drink so she could get to know me a little. It was very awkward at first, then it became okay. I then moved in with my ex for 4 month, the first few weeks went really great, but then things started to get a little tense and she would talk behind my back to my ex. It got me very upset in most situations. Then when we broke up, she didn't care at all. I ended up trying to speak to her on Facebook, but she ended up blocking me. His dad seemed to be okay, I got on with him, but I just always had a feeling he didn't like me.

With my current boyfriend. I met both his parents through webcam. They both seemed okay. I then had a fall out with his mum, when she was being pathetic over something. She then came to visit me with my boyfriend. I was a little nervous at first, as to we had a fall out. But everything went great. We spoke, we laughed, we had play fights. I've never met his dad, But his dad has told me on numerous of times, he likes me and he can't wait to meet me.

So, I guess it's just you have to be yourself really.

Tbh ive never had any trouble with it.

The first time i met my gf's parents it was because they invited me in not my gf lol. They were curious as to what i did for a living and what my plans for the future were. They are actually really nice and ive got smashed a few times with her dad and brother and ive been shopping with her mum and sister for xmas presents. Just seem to get on really well. Think ive got a better relationship with then than i do with some of my family. Been years since weve been together and tbh its nice to know you get along with them.

I didn't have an issue, I was nervous yes, but everything was fine really. Don't have much advice, except for be yourself (which might be a problem )
