Default Windows Blue - What do you think?

Was just reading an article online. It seems that Microsoft is already working on their follow up to Windows 8 currently titled Windows Blue. What is interesting is the possibility that Microsoft might move to a yearly release schedule, realising a new version of their Windows operating system yearly but cheaper than their current pricing.

What do you think? Some might think it's too often but I think it could help Microsoft play catchup. At the moment they seem to often be behind due to the big gaps between their releases. The problem, as also mentioned in the article, is that in Technology you have to stay one step ahead, and technology is always advancing on a daily basis.

A lot of people have mentioned, joked about how they seem to have a track record of a good followed by bad release followed by good etc. some saying that Vista being bad means Windows 8 is but Windows Blue should fix the issues.

    Here is the article http://www.pcworld.com/article/20174...windows-8.html

The problem is no one knows what "Windows Blue" would even involve, what sort of features or functionality changes that they could include or anything like that. I'm also pretty sure Microsoft hasn't even confirmed if this whole change to the way they do the Windows operating system releases just yet.

If they do actually start doing this then they will have adapted the approach Apple has taken over the past few recent years and people who use those computers don't have an issue with it. It does mean the updates/upgrades are quite cheap and not in the three figure area where you would expect a Windows OS to be. Even Windows 8 at the moment you can still get it for like £15 legit.

It will help Microsoft keep in the game of course. But actually now thinking about this - Could Windows Blue just be a name for an update to the OS for the tablets? Could be just for the Surface RT as that is some what separate from the OS you would use on your desktop/laptop or normal 8 tablet.

Windows 8 might not be everyone's cup of tea but I would not class it as a failure or on the same line as Windows Vista. Vista had it's problems at launch but it did get better over time. Now Windows 8 have actually sold more license in the first month than Vista - So that must say something as well.
    • Vista in the first month - 20 million copies were sold.
    • Windows 8 in the first month - 40 million.

I'm using Windows 8 on a desktop right this minute and it runs just perfectly just like Windows 7 did. I've had no issues adapting and even with the start screen which I don't see very often or use very often doesn't annoy me. Even my Grandad wants me to upgrade him to 8 sometime soon.

I would have to know more information about "Windows Blue" before commenting really in terms of what it does, what changes does it include and all that jazz.

I'm sure I have commented in the past about how Apple gets their users to pay for service packs where as Microsoft releases them for free. That will probably be picked up by a certain user if they ever read this thread. Microsoft could do that but it wouldn't be a "service pack" as in what we are used to.

I'll probably upgrade to Windows Blue, permitting they actually remember businesses wish to use their operating systems, and having silly touch UI's are not business-friendly, especially to businesses who have teething problems upgrading from Vista to 7

Can't see it being a bad thing basically!

I doubt that to both of those points. In terms of it being a Windows 7.1 and the start menu. Why the hell would they release a 7.1? It's all about Windows 8 now. They will be focusing on that for many years to come.

    i just glanced at this

but will people **** off comparing the sales of vista to windows 8

    Windows 8 upgrades released at what? $39.99 / £24.99
    windows 8 normal released at what? $69.99 / £49.99

Now lets look at windows vista

Vista ultimate released at what? $349 full / $199 upgrade
Vista Business released at what? $269 full / $179 upgrade
Vista Home Premium released at what? $239 full / $139 upgrade
Vista Home Basic released at what? $199 / $99 upgrade

so even the basic version of vista is at least 2.5x the price

now if microsoft release windows 9 for $10 or $15 any idiot can tell you they're going to get a ton more sales than windows 8.

    that is all.

Congrats for posting the obvious. But Vista was given a bad name due to bugs, performance issues, drivers and whatever else that was wrong with it when it was launched. Windows 8 has none of those and the only issue people would say is an issue is the "new experience". But it is no where near as bad as the Vista launch if that sense.

I do not believe Windows 8 is having the same launch failure as Windows 8. Yes people miss the start menu, yes people don't like change but a lot of people have upgraded to it due the lost cost and I also know businesses are also upgrading to it.
