Default Day 4 of the GS3... time for an iPhone 5?

I've had the Galaxy S3 LTE for 4 days now and it's an awesome phone, but I'm already bored and frustrated with it. Instant notifications (email, Twitter, FB, etc) don't seem to exist and even when I set them to come through after 5 minutes, they don't. I've downloaded pretty much every app/game I'd want from the Play Store and the total is a mere 40 - I've also already had to do a battery reset because one of the games froze... I didn't expect to have that problem from a brand new phone. I've arranged my homepages the way I want them and I can't really see myself changing them again, which defeats the purpose of customisation. Most of the widgets don't automatically refresh and I find myself forgetting they're even there.

Sure, the phone is amazingly responsive, the screen size and resolution are great, expandable storage is convenient and Android is moving at an incredible pace... but like Apple say, the iPhone "just works" and I'm starting to think they're right.

I'm still within my 14 day upgrade grace-period. Would I be better off with an iPhone 5?

From what you've said above, you don't seem to be enjoying your Samsung (and we have a lot of problems with their phones as well ) and yes, I think it may be a good idea for you to move on to the iPhone 5 .

    Not online very often

I recently had an SGS3 LTE too and push notifications work flawlessly, this must be a setting you've changed, or something wrong with your data connection.

I went to an iPhone 5 (simply wanted a change, Android is still awesome) and I've still only got around 30 applications, about the same I had on my old SGS3... 40 isn't a small number at all, you say "mere" but man, how many apps do you need?!

In terms of the battery reset, I can't say I had that problem, but that's down to a poor application design, I don't doubt you had to do it, but I should think it was a one off.

You then talk about customization... you have the phone how you want do you not? That right there is customization, you can't really complain about that.

The SGS3 truly is an awesome phone, and extremely capable, but I think you should give it a couple more days to see how you go... I moved to an iPhone 5 simply because I was bored of Android and had never had an iPhone before, I can't say I'd want to go back to Android in the next few months, but I certainly wouldn't chuck it out the window as an iOS alternative.

There are some things I miss about my SGS3, the ease of sharing between applications (photos, music etc), the full NFC implementation (iPhone has a borked implementation of it), the MAHOOSIVE screen size and some really useful things like holding volume up to change song, but then again there are things I love about my new iPhone, like the incredible camera. Go into an Apple store and try one before exchanging your SGS3 for it, if you like customization, I don't really think you'll like the iPhone 5 so much.

Notifications is hit and miss on iPhones imo, sometimes they're very fast and other times they're kinda slow. I think you'd be better with an iPhone though from what you're saying, you'll see more benefits in the range of apps.

Don't get me wrong, I think the phone's great and I am enjoying it, but there are a few aspects that are ruining the experience for me. Who's 'we' and what problems have you had?

I've tried out a few things to get notifications to work properly, but still no luck. I have sync enabled and all notifications set to 5 minutes (with the exception of Facebook whose minimum is 30). If I'm using the phone they seem to work fine, but if I have it on the desk or in my pocket nothing works. I only get notifications when I start using the phone again.

When I say I've customised the phone, I use that term loosely. I have a Social and Games folder on the main homepage with a few widgets scattered throughout the other pages, which I usually forget are there. I spend most of the time in the App drawer and, as far as I know, folders are the extent of the iPhone's customisation features, so I can still have my two folders.

Before the iPhone 5 came out I was dead set on getting it when I upgraded. The only reason I got the GS3 is because I was very underwhelmed with the iPhone when it was released - and I still am. It seemed like Apple was playing catch-up with Samsung and Android, and still didn't succeed. As for NFC, it seems like a fun gimmick, but I can only see myself making use of wireless charging. I agree with what you said about waiting, but I can see myself sticking with the GS3 and a month or two later wishing I'd gone with the iPhone.

I'm coming from a BlackBerry Torch and despite how dated BlackBerrys seem in comparison, notifications and email were flawless. I think apps are one of the main features for me, I've found I spend most of the time on my phone playing games.

It's a great phone but it's ridiculously ugly. Just buy a Nexus 4, do not waste your cash on the iPhone 5.

I'm not interested in the Nexus 4 until they bring out a 32GB version.

What do you need 32GB for? I understand that some people do but with my Galaxy S2 I got 16GB and bought a 16GB external SD. I ended up never using more than half of the internal SD and hadn't ever used the external SD at all.

So the 16GB is enough for me.

I have an s2 and sometimes it and games freeze and sometimes notifications are a little late but from what I've heard the s3 is great. I've been trying my friends iPhone 4s they got recently and to be honest I prefer Android probably due to the fact I'm used to it more.

All phones sadly have flaws and can be unreliable at times
