Default Meteor Explodes in Sky Over Russia

    ---------- Post added 15-02-2013 at 12:22 PM ----------

Yes it's true lol (about people getting hurt)
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...s-8496426.html

Over 500 people have been injured after a meteor blasted across the sky above Russia's Ural Mountains this morning, causing explosions and smashing windows.

Many of those wounded, 67 of whom are children, were hurt by broken glass, with three people reported to be seriously injured.

The blast occurred just hours before the asteroid 2012 DA14 passes the earth in the closest ever recorded fly-by of an object of its size, but the European Space Agency said its experts had determined there was no connection.

Witnesses described a scene of panic and fears that “war had broken out” as the blast threw pedestrians to the ground in Chelyabinsk, an industrial city known as a centre for the country's nuclear energy and weapons programs.

The meteor struck at about 09:22 local time as people made their way to work and school children finished their first lesson.

The video on the BBC news website was interesting this morning. It was like watching clips from a apocalypse film

Incredibly destructive but amazing to see. It's useful that so many Russians have dashcams in their cars to capture the event, and to see what happens when a meteor of this size hits the earth. What's more interesting is that the Asteroid that flew passed earth was due a few hours after this event, which seemed really freaky but it was just a coincidence after all.

The footage on bbc was pretty cool. Must have been amazing to see it but I would imagine it was also quite scary.

Got to Russia for the dashcams as they also caught that plane crash landing near the airport not that long ago as well.
