Borderlands - The Destroyer help

I'm having trouble killing The Destroyer on borderlands (xbox)
I know to aim for the eye/destroy the tentical things, but I just can't kill it and it's really annoying me now. Anyone got any tips for weapons etc to use?

If I remember correctly, there are rocks you can get behind where the tentacles can't hit you and you can just cheese it like that, they may have patched it since I completed it yonks ago. What class are you playing as? If you're a Siren you should be looking for a Hellfire SMG or a Double Anarchy SMG, as both will shred if you are specc'd into the Elemental and Assassin skill trees.
