Default Czechs boo as EU flag is raised above Prague Castle

Watch: EU flag jeered as it's raised above Prague Castle after the new Czech President signalled an end to the ban which former President Klaus had placed on flying the flag over the building.

Watch: First interview since leaving office, Klaus reflects on the state of Europe today.

A disgusting sight to watch, it's almost as though the politicians rub it in your face. Klaus was right to ban the EU flag from the Castle because whats the symbolism in flying a foreign flag over territory? well, some may say its only a flag - but bare in mind that for many countries in Europe the spectacle of a flag not that of their own flying over government buildings is a throwback to the Europe of the 1940s and Central and Eastern Europe behind the Iron Curtain.

Kudos to the protestors jeering as the flag was raised.

    Thoughts?

It is a damn ugly flag which doesn't really represent anything other than a waste of resources and a sheer lack of cultural significance. I can't blame them for jeering it. It's pointless symbolism It feels really odd looking at any British buildings with such a flag on it, as it holds no value. Hopefully someone in Prague has a lighter on hand. The building looks silly with that draped over it (or flying over it when there is wind). The Czech flag is so much nicer, and has had some imagination put into the design which compliments the amazing architecture.

Wow what a great way to voice your opinion and contribute to the potential discussion that could occur. The flag itself is not the problem, it's what it represents.

It's not even an opinion it's an outright fact that it is a flag. You don't actually go into any detail about what you think of what happened and you're clearly just posting for some tokens.

My opinion, as GommeInc stated above where I agreed is it "it's just a flag". IN MY OPINION I think it is just a flag, nothing more, nothing less. So go moderate elsewhere...

A fair point, but an explanation wouldn't go amiss It is of course just a flag, but why is that a good or bad thing, or simply nothing at all? Some countries hold symbols closer than others, and I believe the Czechs are ones for thinking highly of symbols - and the EU flag (which also lacks an imaginative name - it's simply the Flag of Europe - how boring!) means so very little in the Czech Republic that it's a bit offensive to some. Especially when the former President was against such a flag and what it stands for.

Has it been removed yet or are they sticking it by it?

You think people would be happy to see a Swastika raised in their home town?
