If you want cheap but similar to London in terms of history/a big built up city/UNESCO world heritage site then come to Liverpool. Plus a great nightlife.

My friend from London has been a few times and he loves it, it's like London but a lot lot cheaper. Infact he wants to move here. His mates who have come up also have said they've never experienced anything like it as it's so cheap for what would cost ridiculous amounts in London. We've got an amazing nightlife and there's barely any trouble + bouncers are lovely, there's tonnes of cheap restaurants for what you get, there's loads of culture stuff like two massive cathedrals, something like four very big museums, large theatres, a few big art galleries, a China Town, an independent quarter, a Gay quarter (this is HxF) and we've got the biggest shopping centre in Europe (called Liverpool One) which is right in the middle of the city centre. Plus, the city centre is very mixed and everything is within walking distance as well as there being four universities in the city which makes it very student/younger people friendly.

    Here's Liverpool One....

It was only after moving away for university did I realise how lucky I am to live in Liverpool.

Plus (it has timed out) I forgot to mention that if you're doing a few days away, you could book a train to nearby Manchester which is slightly more expensive but not much for a day trip and it only costs a few quid and like half an hour on the train. So you've basically got two large cities right next to one another.

It's something ridiculously cheap from Liverpool to Manchester on the train if you book in advance like £4 to £6 for a return ticket.
