I'd like to point out this exact same issue occurred in June, and at the time myself and Tom both voiced concern over the current server and recommended moving to a virtual instance (Or at the very least getting a virtualised MySQL slave for a real-time backup e.g. Amazon RDS) and Jin even said we'd move to digital ocean. Evidently that did not occur and we got to have a repeat of last time. If Tom was charging for engineer time then you'd have annihilated any cost savings from not sorting this out 4 months ago.

funnily enough just 3 days prior to the outage we were looking at new solutions including ESXi, Amazon AWS and other solutions.

Unfortunately, none of those yet seem to be comparable to the cost of our current solution, however we have come up with a couple of new ideas which we need to look at in terms of cost projection.
