But to answer the question, I would but it obviously depends on the circumstances and how much of a threat they posed.

The hypothetical situation is they pose an imminent threat to your family, and should you succeed in attacking them without killing them, they would seek revenge and attack your family again at some point in the future.

well when my mum got attacked by my nextdoor neighbour i just called for help from a guy who was walking by and tried to pull the fat ***** off my mum

now ive been in a situation like that i get mad that i didn't smack her in the face

just goes to show if someone asked what i'd do if that happened (before it actually happened) i'd probably say smack her in the face but when it actually happens....
