Default Will music ever become great again?

I just wanted to ask what is your opinion on the Music of today in the mainstream top 40, for some reason it just seems to be either club music full of kitchens being smashed up noises, or cut your wrist sad quiet music with no music background? I mean like, will music ever become real and tasteful again?

The music is false and has hardly any credibility in terms of art.

I read an interview with snoop the other day and he talked about how nowadays rather than paying tribute to older songs and artists people just duplicate the style and pass it off as their own. The man's a pioneer and has always had his own style but musicians today can't afford to take the risks he has so just reproduce what's hot to get paid. There are plenty of great artists about though, what kind of music do you mean when you say 'real and tasteful'?

There's loads of good music about now, just like in "the old days" there was loads of utter crap. The only reason it may appear that older music has more integrity is because we didn't hold on to so much of the rubbish, for obvious reasons.

I think this is the best period for music. I mean there's more choice in music now than ever before with free services such as Spotify and Youtube providing mediums for upcoming or just generally obscure artists. If you want to listen to some Ethiopian hand jazz then i'm sure you could probably find some on youtube or something. Whether the top 40 is good or not is another argument but access to music is so easy and cheap there's something out there for everybody's taste.

to be honest i reckon today the top 40 seems more 'authentic', loads of unknown artists getting huge singles rather than the manufactured acts of the late 90s/early 00s. with the use of spotify/itunes/youtube songs can blow up in seconds, you don't need a singles campaign or a distributer (though they certainly help). we aren't as controlled by tv and radio anymore.

just wait in 10 years you'll hear cheerleader and get nostalgic.

    THIS!

Even services like Soundcloud which allow and foster such incredible music communities! I find most of my new music from sites like Sound and Mixcloud. You get a mix of more famous artists but a lot of up and coming or hobby artists.

The top 40 doesn't represent music as a whole, just like the cover of a book doesn't represent the quality inside. Can't imagine Run the Jewels would be as accessible in the 1920s bruh.

    true dat

i listen to the beatles a lot, the doors, queen & metallica, all really good bands from the 60s, 70s & 80s respectively.
this generations music (sadly, my generation aswell), just doesn't have the same thought put into the lyrics and melody..
