Default France cancels Presidential lunch with Iranians over Islamic dinner table demands

French President cancels lunch with Iranian President after demands for Islamic dinner table of no alcohol and halal meat

The Elysee Palace in the French Republic

The meal has now been cancelled because the Iranians would not eat at a table that was “offensive to their Muslim values”. For its part, France is said to has refused to bow to their religious demands.

Officials at the presidential Elysee Palace said making the food and drink “Iran-friendly” was contrary to France’s secular republican values and was non-negotiable, it has been reported. The Elysee instead suggested a breakfast meeting as a counter-offer, but this was then reportedly rebuffed by the Iranians as being “too cheap”.

A diplomatic source told French news site RTL: “A meal had been planned but fell through. The leaders have missed out on a great opportunity to meet in the relaxed environment of a meal.” The two heads of state are still set to meet for two hours of talks on November 17th – but not at the dinner table.

The row recalls a 2009 incident, when the Iraqi prime minister Nuri Al-Maliki, declined a dinner invitation with former French president Nicolas Sarkozy because he did not want alcohol at the table.

WELL DONE the French. It's about time this religion stopped having everybody kowtow to its constant demands and threats all the god damned time. From our leaders going over there wearing head scarves to please them to the nerve of them when nothing is given way when they come and visit our countries, to trying to dictate the dinner table set up of a meeting hosted in France. Can you imagine our wimp government doing anything like this? To be outplayed by Francois Hollande does some doing but there you have it.

But it just goes to show how downright evil some in western media are towards our values. Here's the Washington Post covering the story, with the headline of "France won't dine with Iran unless wine is served" as though the French are being the unreasonable ones demanding wine on the table. Now sure if the French delegation went to a muslim country and demanded that wine be served by Saudi leaders, that'd be a just headline. But this is a meal being served in French by the French. It just goes to show the untruths and twisting the media will go to to make a certain religion look reasonable.

Anything less is submission. Stand up for Christian and secular western values all the way and all the time.

I understand that they didn't want to set aside their religious beliefs in order to go to a meeting, but then refusing the offer of a less formal breakfast which wouldn't have anything offensive involved is utterly daft

Good on France, it's not as if they had to drink the wine.

I doubt they'd be willing to change something (in a similar scenario as the wine) for our religious beliefs, not that we'd ask them to though...

Fantastic on France. Just as pathetic as not dining with someone because they were wearing a green shirt and you don't like the colour green.
