    Default Gossiping

    Hey everyone,

I've just written an article about gossiping, something that's been prevelant on Habbox since I signed up and something I've been on both sides of. I have experienced it online, at school, at work and even within my family! You can view the article here: https://habbox.com/all-articles/habbox-rumour

What do you all think? Is gossiping more harmful than helpful? Are you guilty of gossiping? Know any stories where gossiping has ruined people's lives? Made up a rumour or spread one that was harmful? How have rumours made you feel? Post a comment on my article or in this thread

Personally I think gossiping is a natural part of human nature but I try my best not to get too hurtful or exaggerated with it. Most of the time I avoid it by just asking the person outright rather than getting involved with the speculation. Thankfully I have a thick skin so people gossiping about me doesn't really bother me

yeah exactly, i would have absolutely no problems with someone asking me if gossip was true cause at least they respect u enough to see your perspective rather than being like "yay gossip".

and it's amazing how u can make up a rumour about anyone and people will believe u. like me saying Scott is bald has become fact without people thinking "hold on, how am i supposed to know this is true when i don't even know the person"

I am guilty of gossiping but I do often think it can be helpful. I don't think I gossip just for the sake of being nasty but sometimes when someone has upset me I will go to someone else and complain about the thing they did - I don't know if that's gossiping or not?

I meant like say at work when my boss told me she would be deciding my holiday days for me (legit story), I complained about it to my friends and things?
And I would say that's definitely a better way of letting off steam than me keeping it bottled up for a week and then charging into work for my next shift screaming and stamping because I'd had nowhere to complain beforehand.

I'm sure I'm guilty of gossip just for the sake of gossiping as well but I really hope I wouldn't make up some random shit just to hurt someone. I've had that done to me (nobody spoke to me for seven/eight months in secondary school because a rumour started that I was a lesbian and no one wanted to catch the gay from me) and wouldn't wish that on anyone else - no matter how much I disliked them.

ye @Empired; someone at work was gossiping about me so my colleague retaliated by telling gossip about her. & ive done it myself - someone spread rumour about me so i spread one back (i will often revenge gossip but try not to engage in it over people who've done nothing wrong to me) but then we became friends n i felt bad about it so told her straight away lol. that's the thing, u can gossip about someone, realize it's wrong n they're actually alright but then you feel like an ass.

I guess this isn't so much about the more light hearted kind of thing and more about being vindictive, cruel or perhaps just spreading about personal information. I don't really approve of that kind of gossiping, but at the same time it's in my nature to find everything out be it about someone, or about something - I just like knowing though I never really spread what I find out. When I do, I usually have an understandable but perhaps not a good reason for doing so. Also, it wasn't that sensitive of information anyway as far as I'm aware so it wasn't a huge deal.

I remember at school someone claimed to have cancer and told a friend of mine in confidence, but he ended up telling all of us anyway. It was almost certainly a lie based on many factors, but looking back I wonder what would have happened if it wasn't as I can't actually think of a time gossiping has done much more than simply annoy someone.

Gotta agree with Mike and say it's just how the majority of people are that we gossip, can't get away from it :p

I try and steer clear of the people who are obviously doing it a lot for negative reasons cos they're clearly not the most kindest of people.
