    Default Work vs Time Off

okay so is anyone else like me

you know when you have to get up for work and its reallyyyy like cba today and you wanna get home again. that's for most people i think. but like i always find if i'm not in work for more than a couple of days and i'm not doing anything i get really sad just sitting around and actively wanna go to work cos it makes me feel better. that's why i dont understand people on benefits who choose it like jesus it must be so demoralising getting up at 12+ everyday and sitting there doing NOTHING what's the point?? i think work is so good for your mental state don't you agree

anyone else or could you just sit there for like two weeks doing absolutely nothing

I probably could sit around and do nothing for two weeks and do nothing, but that's coming from a perspective of constantly being in work/always being on call if it's too busy and I go in. Then there are days like today, where being up at 5am makes me question whether or not it's worth it... because it's 5am.

Kinda. If it's my holiday then I'm perfectly happy to chill all week and do nothing without it bothering me, but if I'm unwell by the beginning of day two I'm just at home miserable and feeling useless.

i'm sure people on benefits don't just sit there. they might have kids to look after or errands to run. might also not be able to work.

some people do nothing and just go shopping probs, but that's the minority.

when i'm off work it's usually for a reason so i'm usually always doing something. but i have found myself sometimes thinking 'arghh i need this routine back in my life' otherwise i would just get tired n sleep

yah for real, my manager recommends we take one 2 week break off work each year but am ready to come back after 3 days! i think it's cause atm on my days off i don't have anything exciting to do, i just do housework and stay at home really. would be better if i was going away for breaks/holidays or seeing family and stuff on my days off.
what i loved was when i was doing 6 hour days 5 days a week cause i was working plenty but also getting plenty free time.
but yeah am totally the same, after 3 days off work, if im doing nothing im desperate to get back, so i do wonder how people can sit and do nothing (my brother is one of those - nothing through the week then party at the weekend) BUT through uni i did basically do nothing through the summer. if i WAS working then i would wish i wasn't cause i got to spend weeks at a time with Scott.

My mum's on benefits and my dad is her full time carer, however she didn't choose it, she physically can't work. They are both up earlier than me pretty much every day .

If you have more than a couple of days off, why not go out and do something else, I agree that I can get bored, but last week I had 3 days off together so I took myself off shopping instead. I haven't been shopping in months so it was great and may help too. If it's my holiday though, then it's just nice to have some time off from it.

Hell no, I love time off work and will often be doing something rather than nothing at all.

i'm usually bored if i'm off work unless i'm doing something.

I had a year after uni where I did nothing (cause why not) but I played games every day and people I played with didn't work so was perfect cause we'd play all day and it was fun

now everyone works or is busy during the day so if I have a day off I'm basically bored

but interesting responses. i always find i become lazy too when i'm off work like work makes me tired but also gives me more energy

I'm a workaholic too. I look forward to the weekend but by Sunday I just want to get back to work.
As someone who was unemployed on benefits, the boredom is definitely one of the worst things about it. I can't understand it either, especially if they're in their 20s. Another 50+ years of the same thing over and over. I was going nuts after 3 months lol.
