You Can Speak Out

Your freinds and other teenagers can help you solve your problems too. Schools across the country are starting to set up peer support groups where young people are trained to listen and help others. From the 21-22 November the Anti-Bullying Alliance is running Anti-Bulling Week. This would be the perfect time to start up a peer support group in your school. You could try talking to your teachers and school council about setting up a peer support group. Do you bit to help someone.
What You Can Do To Help?
During Anti-Bullying Week (21-25 November) you could:
Contacts
- Have a brainstorm with your friends or class about the types of problems you might face at school. What kind of person do you think makes a good listener.
- Chat to your most supportive teacher to see what he or she thinks about peer support and maybe setting up a group in your school.
- Get the whole school talking about peer support. Why not ask if your teachers can make the topic of assembly and school council about Anti-Bullying Week and peer support groups. You could also put up posters to promote Anti-Bullying Week.
- Create a 'Problem Post' box to enable everyone to share worries anonymously. Discuss possible solutions to the problems and display them around school.
