    Wow, I'm obsessed with this kind of stuff, lol.

    I think it's an acid/alkali reaction..not sure!
    But if you can't find mentos, any mint that dissolves in fizzy will do the trick, or bicarbonate of soda/baking powder(?) and vinegar has the same effect, it's pretty fun!
