Bit of advice -- Don't pick subjects because your friends are wanting to do them. Choose them because you want to do them. Chances are if you pick a subject the same as your friends, you won't be in the same class.

Good piece of advice there, also dont pick them if your parents want you too either its YOUR choice.

    I picked:
ICT (GNVQ) (Whoohoo worth 4 GSCE)
    Geography
    Rst

We had four slots ICT took up 2, Rst + Geography both took 1 each.
I totally regret picking geography i hate it!!!

The options are different in every school, usually you will have 4 sections with various subjects in them and you will have to pick one from each section.

Thanks everyone for the help. It just seems a bit early to me, at 14 to be choosing where my life is gonna wind up...

When you get in to year nine
or now you could do this
    Go through your time table
Think which subjects you ENJOY Then the ones you are good at.
Then pick your favourite out of both coloums

You will get lots of talks, leaflets and evenings. It ranges between schools really and it depends what other core subjects your school give you, and if your school is a speciality school. E.g Technology school > Tech classes manditory. Music speciality school > music manditory. You may also get the choice to do a GNVQ at college as your only choice, not sure how many schools do that though.

Don't worry! As long as you have the grades, you will probably get into the college/university course you want despite what subjects you took, though some are more desirable. Like if you wanted a job that was very science-based, if there was a choice like 3 seperate sciences like Biology, Chemistry and Physics, if you took that you would be more prefered for the course.

You should consider this, when chosing, in this order:

    - Do I enjoy it?
    - Am I good at it?
    - Is it where I want to go for my future?

    Hope this helps.
