On a forum with 17,000+ members you have to be strict sometimes otherwise it would be chaos!

Its sometimes.
Some staff are power-hungry and are strict for no reason. If you make a slight mistake they'll try and get you for it.
But other staff are easy-going and they don't get you for everything. (JackHB, Seacat, Neversoft, CortezHelsing) I'm sure there are more but I just thing of any of my head right now.

Some are strict, while some are really cool people and join in with peoples fun and have a laugh. I do think some MODs really need to look at true evidence before referring to a Super MOD/Admin and banning.
