There's nothing wrong with hanging out with the opposite gender. Personally I have more friends who are girls than those who are boys. Simply ignore them. I kind of had the same problem last time, but with ignorance, soon they got bored and stopped.

The reason they pick on you:
They are probably jealous, I know, it's something used a lot to make somebody feel better and stuff, but I think they are jealous that you are in better contact with girls than them.

Girls become mature sooner than boys, so it just means you're mature (or maturer than those boys) and want to hang out with other mature people, and those people just happen to be female.
