People result to it because it takes away the pain. But yes it's a tad obsessive if you carve someones name in your skin. It's probz alright if it had been like for 5 years together.

It depends how bad it is. When I have slit my wrists in the past, the scars gradually faded and most can't be seen at all now, whereas others can be seen up close.

I have the initials of a certain woman on one of my arms, with a heart around it. I didn't do it because of breaking up though, it was because 1} I was (and still am) completely mad about her and 2} it was a couple of years ago when I was an idiot. I did it as a form of scarification (similar to tatooing but without ink) rather than as a sign of depression. That and I was probably bored.
