The base isnt circle.
Its more square with a rounded edge
There are better ways to shade cylinders that just lines too.

I love it, but make the top of the hat orange only and it need more shaiding..

I removed the top and made it straight

I don't think the tilt was a mistake, I think It was there to look more realistic because those hats don't stand up tall... :S

The slight tilt backwards was intentional.. its not meant to go straight up... ;l

anyway i tried fixing the bottom to make it mroe round

if it was a side on view yours would be half ok but no.
Its iscometric.
and Collected - I dont think you should degrade your comment to her for her chosen design.
It could have been on a refference or something.
