Default Terror Suspect Charges Announced: Why?

The Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service publicly announced the charges of 11 terror suspects. Why?
All 11 suspects were charged with crimes related with the planned terror attacks on transatlantic airliners.
Also, they appeared in court the following day [what's the rush?] and the court case was also publicised as much as possible.

Could the Police be showing off that they have caught terrorists?
Could the Government have an influence in this publicity?
    What do you think?

Well it was a very important matter. Not any old crime.
So informing the public about everything would put everyone's minds at rest I guess.

I think they just wanted to get it over with so they can concentrate on catching more?

They needed to convict them fast because if they keep them under suspicion for too long the human rights law will intervein and they'll have to let them go.
The police announce this because it reasures the public that they got who they want from the raids.

What nekkle said. Its got nothing to do with showing off, the police can only hold terror suspects a month without charge, so the evidence and court appearances need to be done as quickly as possible. It was publicised, like alot of important news, because if not caught, these people would have killed thousands of people. Its important that the public are kept upto date. If it wasn't this publicised its likely that the police would have been criticised for not keeping us upto date with these issues.

many of the public who could of been about to fly on the flights with the suspected terrorists would want to know that people who could of killed them are put to justice and it also generaly inproves the mood of the public
