A professional is someone who follows a profession (job or practise)
A professional can also be someone who is someone who earns a living in a given or implied occupation, or a skilled practitioner/expert

If someone earns £20 every now and again for a webdesign, they arnt a professional.

A professional shows skill in his or her practise, in this case webdesign.

To be skilled, you dont have to have a degree or reconised qualification.

A professional doesnt have to do a job 24/7, just because they are skilled at it. Althoguht, if someone is that good at something, they are likely to enjoy it to have learn it in the first place, so it is common for people to do it as a full time occupation.
