If the did something really wrong and were old enough to understand what it was and that its bad I would. But not beat them.
My parents belived in smacking, It was a wooden spoon or the jug cord for me. Same for my siblings, most of the time it was for nothing. I think sometimes their judgement was wrong, but it helped pull me into line.

hitting a child would not achieve much just hitting the child would either make them cry and run off, make the situation even worse or they would just keep going alot can be done by talking to a child, So my answer is no.
