Two suggestions: Look at christina aguileras pics and you'll feel better *drools*
second one is to get a bowl of boiling water and breath in the steam. it clears your airways of any bad stuff like being bunged up etc

    Have a Lemsip

If you want a sciency explanation, you can have one (I'll make it as simple as I can so everyone can understand):

Your body has two types of white blood cells to combat disease: lymphocytes and phagocytes. Phagocytes consume and digest any bad things in your body, and lymphocytes produce antibodies to destroy them. All bacteria and such have coats called antigens. An antibody can only destroy a bacterium when it's shape matches the antigen of the bacterium. This takes time to recognise, which is why you get ill before you get better. Once your lymphocytes know how to destroy a certain bacterium, you won't get that illness again (which is the basis for vaccination). HOWEVER, the common cold mutates a hell of a lot, changing it's antigen all the time. Therefore your lymphocytes can never eradicate every type of common cold virus there is, because they cannot produce the right antibodies.

    Hope that made sense.

If I was a mad scientist or something I wouldn't bother finding out a cure for the common cold. I would work on finding cures for more serious things like diabetes and cancer.

But everyone has common colds all the time..
You'd make a fortune out of it if you invented a cure
