Small amounts of algae is good for your fish. I had a problem with algae growing on the outside of my tank so I purchased a tiger snail from my local pet shop, the snail cleared it up pretty quickly. Ask in your local fish shop, they're always keen to help.

Algae eating fish are a good idea, and no they don't eat other fish unless they die and sink to the bottom, but I don't advise leaving dead fish in there lol.
Do you have a tropical, salt water or fresh water tank by the way?
