It may infact be because they don't like gay people. Lets see it in another point of view, racism. Now just because a racist shouts racist chants at black people does not mean he wants to be black. Sure alot of homophobic people may be homophobic as a point of denial to stop them being gay, but it is a stupid accusation to call a homophobe a "secret gay" because that's stupid.

You're thoughts on the whole "if you're homophobic then you're secretly gay" thing?
Well the (i forget the name of the study, u can probably google it up quite easy) study, did show that most violently homophobic people were actually gay, This does not apply to people whom are simply homophobic, but the violence stems from a self hate and self denial of that fact, which is the reason most "viloently anti gay" people act out violently.

People who disapprove of homosexually, cant really be grouped under this, ignorant maybe, but the whole self hatred = violence link which the study was testing cannot apply to someone who doesn't have violent tendancys and is most likly not self hateing so much. "/

Hows that work? please dont say your quoteing the painfly idiotic argument used for "gay parents will equal gay children" style arguments. Think about it. Do all straight parents raise straight children o.0

Yeah if you've ever seen the film American Beauty **spoiler** it portrays this. A violent father[who was in the Army I think it was] is anti-gay & violent towards his soon when he thinks he is gay, however the father goes around to the supposedly gay guys house & is rejected after he got the wrong end of the stick

actually, i asked smiddy about that a while ago, and he said you used to be racist in school too. so har.

    i wasn't trying to make a mockery :/
i just thought your post sounded rather in favour of homophobia.

& about the whole racism thing.
if it's so incredibly bad because people are born with whatever skin colour, how come you have no problem making fun of plenty of people's looks? they were born the way they were, and it's only a skin deep thing, so i don't see how that is any better than racism.

ha i think that's stupid, 2 brothers can grow up with an identical upbringing from their parents and one can be straight and one gay.

Actually that was something that the teacher took in the wrong context though so I assume he did aswell, so there!

I blatently said that I wasn't in favour of homophobia atall, either you're trying to stir stuff or you just can't read that well.

Coming from you of all people, saying that homophobia is low yet you've taken the pee out of someones looks. I pretty much only take the pee out of someones looks if they've given me a reason to or done something to make me annoyed - most racism is done out of spite & just hatred when often the person from another race has done nothing wrong although someone like that has.

And Helen you seem to post a comment in most of my threads to try & flare an argument. Ooh big woop just cos I didn't score as well in GCSEs doesn't meann that you are more intelligent than me in certain subjects. I "may think I'm better than everyone else" but you think you're smarter than everyone else "/

Nah the environment they are brought up in, like the surroundings & what they are exposed to at an early age. I think stuff like say for example not having a father/male figure could lead to either being gay or a very protective/violent person.

i'm not going to answer that one, because i, unlike you, can keep my mouth shut when it comes to what other people have told me.

but i could stick a so there at the end of it

    i think it's you who can't read m'dear, "thought".
    implies a personal opinion ;]
people don't always mean what they say.

i don't think homophobia is low, i said that to prove a point.
i obv don't, all of my friends on this island, and my parents, are homophobic.
direct homophobia i do have a problem with, jokes i don't.
    same applies to racism.
i do not see how racist jokes hurt any coloured person in any way?
i'm sure they make jokes about white people too.

and so them doing something wrong means you can diss their appearance, ok.
a few muslims are terrorists, there's my reason to hate them ;D
since half the people you diss it's only because of their friends, or something that affects you in no way at all.

er wth, when did i say i was smarter than you, or anyone else, or even mention GCSEs :/?
i don't think i'm smart at all, but i think you think you are, just because you can word things well, but in actual fact most of what you say is utter crap.

I actually think the only reason you're against racism is because it gives you a chance to feel superior over someone - racists.
you obviously don't get much chance to feel superior, so have to create situations by changing your views and opinons.

In non-violent cases of homophobia (as in, an irrational fear of gays or feeling of uncomfort about gays) then it's not "sick", it's a legitimate phobia just like any other.

Environmental varibles cant really account of the biological differnces though, in hormone levels or even in the way the brain works (male and female thinking pattens are quite different)
Personly i dont belive ether enviromental or gentic factors alown are what account for it, both most likly play a roll "/

racism/homophobia/sexism etc is all to do with how you were brought up and environmental factors.

i was brought up by a family who are pretty racist (not in a nasty horrible way, but making racist jokes etc). most of my friends are racist (again not in a nasty way) and all that black people have ever done to me is mug me and intimidate me, therefore i am pretty racist and i'll own up to that.

however the people i hang around with and my family are not homophobic, therefore i will frown upon homophobia if i come across it. same with sexism.

but this will always exist and you just have to put up with it.
