I took french at school, didn't really enjoy it or pay attention in the lessons.

After summer I'm going to live in Russia for around a year and do a Russian language course there.

    well for singapore it's different.

    first language (compulsory): english

second language: your mother tongue, and since singapore's populated with mostly chinese, malays & indians:-
    - mandarin
    - malay
    - tamil/other indian languages

third language (not compulsory at all): others, like:-
    - french
    - german
    - spanish
    - japanese
    - arabic etcetc.

I have Italian lessons outside of school but I took no languages for GCSE, mainly because I find the language facilities and teachers to be poor at my school and we could choose between French and Spanish.

In Year seven we did a short course on German, French and Japanese. In year 8 you can choose what you want to continue with then in year 9 and 10 you can pick them as elective subjects although it isn't very common some times.

Personally I do Japanese by correspondance (Distance education) because I wished to continue with the language and the class didn't go ahead.
