Right ok lets conduct alittle test to see if anyone can solve this. Its pritty simple and will take less than 5 minutes if you use logic. Its also been done on a film (who says watching television isnt educational ) so you might know how to do it from that anyway.


I have two containers;

One container holds 3 liters of water
One container holds 5 liters of water

Now i want to get exactly 4 liters of water into the 5 liter container.

You can only use the two containers and nothing else, it can also be done.

Use the 5 liter container to fill the 3 liter container. You're left with 2 litres of water in the 5 liter container. So empty the 3 liter container and pour the 2 liters of water that is in the 5 liter container into the 3 litre container, so there is 2 liters in the 3 liter container. Fill up the 5 liter container and use it to fill up the 3 liter container. So then you'll have 4 liters left in the 5 liter container. Ohh, yeah!

to get the other 3 litres in the 5 litre, you have to have no water in the 5 litre container, but you already have 3 litres?

where he empties the 3 litre container, what does he empty it in to? :rolleyes: nothing because he uses the 5 litre container is used to fill up again after

Ohh, I thought I might be wrong because you said you can only use the containers and nothing else. I used my brain but didn't get it at first, but it's quite simple once you think of it.
