    Default The Soundtrack Bug

    I think I've caught it.

I've never EVER (!) been a fan of classical music, but after seeing 300 at the cinema, I thought "why not?" and bought the accompanying soundtrack, composed by Tyler Bates. It's fantastic! And I really never thought I'd say that about orchestral music. Every song is extremely emotive, and I love being able to relive moments of the film in my head.

I liked it so much I went ahead and bought another soundtrack: Requiem For A Dream composed by Clint Mansell, and it's even better. I haven't seen the movie, but the album had brilliant reviews on iTunes so I thought I'd give it a go. A track called Lux Aeterna is one of the most wonderful pieces of music I've heard, and actually forms the basis for some of the music from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Best of all, I can listen these CDs while I'm working, and because they're instrumental I don't have the urge to sing along and put "Oh baby" accidentally into an Economics essay

So in short: I'm finding myself hooked. It's weird to say, but I like it!

I can't bear the works of the classic composers like Mozart and Chopin, but I really am starting to love more modern classical music. I'm enjoying the mix of synthesised sounds and real instruments. The orchestra + electric guitar mix on some of the 300 tracks is amazing.

I've just ordered the Pans Labyrinth CD too
