I don't think it should be scrapped I just think there should be more activity in the "report rep problems" thread and such.

This was being discussed in that thread. This thread is a bit pointless.

I completely disagree. Your thread was created to discuss something, now a discussion branching off of that has been created so as to give this matter full attention. You don't have a monopoly on ideas, just because it was being discussed secondarily in your thread doesn't mean that someone else can't create a new one to bring it to the fore.

It really bothers me how certain people seem to get a complex that certain other members don't have the right to post threads, now if your thread was "Should reputation be done away with" then you might have a point.

I think rep was fine until it could be bought. Now it's pointless, because people just buy it to say they are safe and stuff, you can't buy a reputation in real life, you earn it. Same concept on the forums.

I have two views on this issue. Well I have one personal view, then I have a realistic view.

In my opinion, yeah, reputation should be done away with. People are getting obsessed with it, not even funny how seriously people are taking reputation. People are abusing it, crying over it, getting into fights over it, losing friends over it. Really starting to bug me.

However its completely unrealistic to think that we could just remove the reputation system. The whole issue of people who bought rep aside, even if we refunded it all, people would throw a fit if we removed it. Shows how obsessive people have become with it so far

I remember once there was a thread with hundreds of pointless reps in the staff forum, I went through every member in that thread and removed the pointless sent and recieved reps (don't ask why, I was a new admin then :rolleyes and half of them threw fits, one who was my friend *complained* (I wanted to use a different word there) at/to me and then one stopped talking to me. Needless to say when he tried to get a favor out of me a month later I blocked him :8

It's to late to go back now, I just think you guys should of never introduced buying rep, it was a fine system until they implemented that.

Even if you stopped people buying rep, it wouldnt make it fair. since VIPS still have an advantage in seeing who repped them, which just results in revenge reps against anyone who repps one of them most the time.
Hence why less people tend to neg rep vips.

If the rep system wanted to hold any value, it would have to be made equal for all members, everyone getting the same system.

Also if someone asked for pointless neg rep receaved, they should also have all there pointless + rep removed as well, since people just use it as an exucse to bump there rep power by removing any neg. if they want that removed they should have the pointless +rep removed as well in my view. That or just accept it all as it is, and leave it as such.

But i cant see that happening, being able to view who repped u is probably the biggest selling point for VIP for one.
