The main shareholder and copyright holder of habbo is Sulake Oy (The finish equivalent of a UK Privately Limited Company (LTD)). The European Union and most of the European Economic Area countries see domain names as addresses and not copyright material, therefore they can not say that it violates copyright.

There are endless cases of legal battles like this, and cross-country cause’s problems. The only way habbo could get the domain habbo.whatever is if they prove in court that the site provides telecommunication services under the domain name of habbo.whatever, where in the word habbo is copyrighted to them AND the copyright states that the servesces included are those of a telecommunication nature. By placing Hyperlinks on a page that site is transmitting data via telecommunication means and that is how habbo can get the domain. Sulake would win (if they proved) that they are violating copyright by mimicing their services) Sorry I felt like being nerdy :S

I’m not chatting xyz here there are endless cases, look it up.

I think your getting confused with the cases about (domainhere)sucks.com, if a website has a domain that is identical or incredibly similar, so much so that an average person would consider it owned by the said company, then they have the right to sue the owner for either: intended defamation, copyright infringement. That is if the owner refuses to sell them the domain for the amount they paid. (domainhere)sucks.com has been put through the courts many times, most notoriously paypalsucks.com. The court ruled that is it clearly wouldnt be owned by paypal, as they wouldnt say they 'sucked', it was not subject to this INTERNATIONAL law.
    Habbox is:
an unofficial fansite for a good reason.
unliked for a lot of good reasons.
popular for all the wrong reasons.
probably going to get more popular.
(not supposed to, but probably does) control the general rare values of habbo.
(not supposed to, but definately does) influence people in their decisions on habbo.

For those of us who would like an actual honest fansite practically controlling clubtropica, please do us a favour and stick to habbo. Otherwise, callie may eat you.

On another note, I'd move from the AMERICAN hotel to the South African hotel if it came out...

That's not true..If someone owns a trademark and runs a domain (or several) under that trademark (for instance Habbo in this case), they have the power to force you to give it to you.

Don't say this isn't true, because one of the biggest cases like this was the problem with Google's mail service. The term "GMail" was trademarked in the UK, so Google were forced to only offer "@googlemail.com" emails in the UK

Same kinda thing happened with Nissan Motors. They attempted to sue the owner of nissan.com, $10 Million in damages and cybersquatting.

Read the full thing about what happened to Mr Nissan at http://nissan.com/Digest/The_Story.php

I dont know why I posted this but I guess its kinda about the domain trademark kinda thing
