    An abbreviation means a shorter word that represents a longer word. Eg. don't is abbreviated from do not.

    Night night is different 'cause really I'd deem that as slang. But saying night once is obviously shortened from goodnight. Variations can also depend on dialect and accent. Eg: The becomes T'.

    Well thanks to anyone who cares lol.

    "Lol" is a contraction, and saying "happy birthday" makes sense on its own; it's an abbreviation of "have a happy birthday," or whatever is inferred.
