Default Cameron tells Brown "Let the people decide."

    Conference speech

David Cameron has challenged Gordon Brown to call an immediate general election and "let the people decide".
In a rallying end-of-conference speech, the Tory leader said the Conservatives were ready for a snap poll, adding: "We will fight, and Britain will win."
He said he wanted his party to inspire people with a message of optimism and hope for Britain in the "new world".
Speaking without notes, he contrasted the "modern" Tories with Labour's "cynical... old politics".
I say - God, we have got to do better than that

    Key Quotes: Cameron speech
    At-a-glance: Tory conference

He reminded party members he had last addressed them in Blackpool when he had made his pitch to be their leader in 2005 - a speech which famously propelled him from outsider to favourite for the job.
"Today I want to make a speech about why I want to lead our country," he said.
"I'm afraid it's going to be a bit longer and I haven't got an autocue. I haven't got a script. I have just got a few notes. It might be a bit messy, but it will be me."
New priorities The Conservatives have used their week in Blackpool to set out the policies they believe can win them the next election - including lifting the ceiling on inheritance tax from £300,000 to £1m and cutting stamp duty for first-time buyers. With the party trailing in the opinion polls, Mr Cameron was hoping to convince voters the Tories have what it takes to deliver changes in health, education, law and order and security.

Clever, clever play. But I believe it's a bluff all the same. Also, he did a speech from adlib, no speeches just a few notes which I think was a very smart move seen as Cameron has been accused of being very "face" and only intrested in looking good.

Gotta hand it to 'em, some intelligent moves.

Huuugeee bluff. I can see straight through it, not sure about the rest of the electorate though. It makes me cringe when a presenter asks a tory what they'll do if there's an election, and they answer with a smug "win". It makes me cringe and to be honest I fail to see how anyone can seriously want them to govern the country, unless they're eurosceptic toffs that is. Maybe I'm exaggerating... a little.

It's a nice tactic because it's difficult to believe that Brown will do it, and so he could lose face. Fairly important when it's clear that Labour would still win an election at this time no matter how unpopular they are, simply because not many people like Cameron.

I don't think we'll see Conservative back in power for a very long time to be honest.

If Cameron doesn't win this election, mark my words, he won't be leader for another election afterwards.

The reason Cameron seemed to be ahead in the polls, wasn't because of his 'moderniseation' of the party, it was because Tony Blair was unpopular, I think if the Torys returned to traditional values like under Thatcher and Howard, they would have more a chance of winning.

Such a bluff! Gordon Brown has a 11 point lead in opinion polls atm, so Labour would be hard to beat.

Before Tony Blair left, I thought that Cameron would probably be PM very very soon, but so far, Gordon Brown is doing quite a good job

Anyway, I dont want Brown to call an election, because if he does I wont be able to go on my school trip to the Houses of Parliament

    Lol.

Only problem is, with a winter election not many people can be botherd to go out and vote, so the outcome of the election may not be a true reflection of the countrys views.

With the lead narrowing (apparently) I can't see there being a general election on the 1st November. Then again, who knows.

However last night I found out the lead over the tories has narrowed to only 3 points, I disagree with him doing a good job though, all he has done really is lie to us about an EU vote the lecture us on we being able to trust him.

I feel the same way, the only reason i'd want the Tories to win is because they'd promise a referendum.
