A Pacemaker is basically something that goes into your chest to ensure that the heart's beats at a consistent and adequate heart rate, it does this by sending out electrical impulses into the heart.

It shouldn't hurt in the long term.
As it is, in your heart there are 'control points' which send out electrical signals - the pace maker will simply override this and ensure your heart beats 'normally'.

Thing is signals can interfere with them. Well with lots of things. Just this minute it said in my Wii instruction manual that it can interfere with PaceMakers.

Krusty the clown has one on the Simpsons
The other day I was in a toilet.
A voice came from the cubicle next to me: "Hello mate, how are you doing?"
I didn't want to be rude, so I said, "Not too bad, thanks."
I heard the voice again. "So, what are you up to?"
Again I answered, "Just having a quick ****... How about yourself?"
Then I heard him say "Sorry, mate, I'll have to call you back. I've got some **** in the cubicle next to me answering everything I say."

It's keyhole surgery, you'll be awake and won't feel a thing.
