    The cells which power heart pacemakers contain lithium metal.

    a) Why is lithium a good choice for the negative electrode.

    b) Explain why water is not used in the electrolytic layer.

    Lithium is good as the negative electrode due to the fact that it is a highly reacive metal and it has a high number of electrons to give off (I think!)

    Water will reacts with the lithium causeing a VERY dangerous metal fire. It is also a poor electolite.
