The DNA Database

The government hasn't actually said it wants one, it simply said it had no plans for one. It's more the Police force that wants one, and the Tories would simply like to see a debate.

The government has to start using database's and updating it's self with technologies, it's a long task but it has to be done, and they will have to learn to begin protecting them, I'm guessing soon they'll be calls for a law to be brought in and soon enough they'll be more ways to prevent the loss of data being lost, but nothings being done yet sadly.

I think this would prevent crime as well as catch the criminals. I don't agree with Insurance companies and third-parties accessing the data, it should be solely for the Police.

Frankly, if someone 'stole my DNA', what could they do with it? Can they even read or make any sense of it for starters? What really can they do with my DNA though?

i voted no simply because i dont trust the goverment or the police because i could imagine there being a mix up with the dnas and then people would get away using dna evidence when really it could just be a fault in the system i would never want to put to much faith in technology

I just think that it should be continued how it is today, if you commit crime then your picture, dna and fingerprints will be taken. In response to jordy's post I dont think your dna can be "stolen" it is all sent off to a specialist company and all of the data is inputted on the computers, i dont think they keep the salvia samples. The fingerprints are sent to america for analysing and then kept on our database.

If everyone uses DNA for database and the information is leaked then your idendity has gone, it is useless. You cannot replace fingerprints or DNA. On the point of safety you can't keep anything safe nowadays and secondly you can NEVER trust politicians with information.

If they want my DNA/Fingerprints they'll have to use force.

Bank details, personal details. There are many things and all it takes is for one mistake.

Im not having my DNA details floating about on the black market.

I really don't trust anybody having my personal details (especially the government or public sectors.)

They have lost LOADS of data so I don't think giving them more is a great idea....

DNA changes slightly over time and mutates a little depending on what illnesses and diseases you have and parts of the world you visit will have some small impact. I am sure with the advance of technology scientists will be able to re-create your dna in babies etc and may even find a way of changing a persons dna by a course of treatment? Could somebody swap their name with yours on the database so you would get the blame for anything they have done wrong? I dont trust what will be done with the information and what can be done with it now or in the future.
