The government hasn't actually said it wants one, it simply said it had no plans for one. It's more the Police force that wants one, and the Tories would simply like to see a debate.
The government has to start using database's and updating it's self with technologies, it's a long task but it has to be done, and they will have to learn to begin protecting them, I'm guessing soon they'll be calls for a law to be brought in and soon enough they'll be more ways to prevent the loss of data being lost, but nothings being done yet sadly.
I think this would prevent crime as well as catch the criminals. I don't agree with Insurance companies and third-parties accessing the data, it should be solely for the Police.
Frankly, if someone 'stole my DNA', what could they do with it? Can they even read or make any sense of it for starters? What really can they do with my DNA though?
